Cat 1 · 30 days
appointment within 30 calendar days. - Craniofacial syndrome, genetic, neurologic or restrictive lung condition associated with higher risk of SDB, with witnessed repetitive apnoeas and/or desaturations on appropriate monitoring or central cyanosis
Cat 2 · 90 days
appointment within 90 calendar days. - Dysmorphism/genetic abnormality (eg downs syndrome, prader willi syndrome)/syndrome known or suspected, known to be associated with sleep disordered breathinand - Symptoms of sleep disordered breathing or desaturations and/or hypercarbia documented on appropriate equipement - Known Arnold chiari malformation, spina bifida or achondroplasia
Cat 3 · 365 days
appointment within 365 calendar days. - Significant sleep disturbance, not responding to usual measures with an underlying craniofacial syndrome, genetic, neurologic or restrictive lung condition
Referral will be returned without this. If a mandatory test cannot be obtained, say so in the referral.
- Detailed sleep history - Assessment of relevant contributory factors such as psychosocial and environmental contributors - Presenting complaint and reason for referral - Underlying condition details (including likely diagnosis if clear diagnosis not yet available) - Relevant examination findings, including oropharyngeal examination - Sleep scheduling and hygiene resources used (if relevant) - Documented gas exchange abnormalities
The following conditions are out of scope for this service: - Children with enuresis as the presenting problem except when obstructive sleep apnoea is suspected – refer to General Paediatrics [https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/referrals/services/paediatric-medicine-general-paediatrics] - Primary management of mental health disorders – refer to Mental Health or local Paediatrician - Suspected seizure disorders during sleep – refer to Paediatric Neurology [https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/referrals/services/neurology] - Developmental disorders without specific sleep symptoms – refer to developmental or general paediatrics - Brief resolved unexplained events (BRUE) unless a specific sleep disorder is suspected - Infant or toddler settling issues – refer pathways include child health nurse, Ellen Barron Centre or general paediatrics
