Cat 1 · 30 days
appointment within 30 days. - Pathological mediastinal lymphadenopathy (nodes ≥ 15–20 mm)
- Mediastinal lymphadenopathy with significant extra thoracic nodes on imaging[JM1] [CH2] . Consider concurrent referral to haematology where clinical or radiological features suggest haematological malignancy including lymphoma [#_msocom_1; #_msocom_2]
- Associated hypercalcaemia, new kidney impairment, weight loss or unexplained sweating
- Radiological features suggestive of active pulmonary process including tuberculosis
Cat 2 · 90 days
appointment within 90 days. - Mediastinal lymphadenopathy with nodes 10-15 mm with no other concerning features which persist on follow up imaging after at least 3 months
Cat 3 · 365 days
appointment within 365 days. - Mediastinal lymphadenopathy requiring follow up but stable on serial imaging for >6-12 months
Essential referral information
Referral will be returned without this. If a mandatory test cannot be obtained, say so in the referral.
- CT chest and details of radiology provider
- Biochemistry results (calcium and renal function)
- Details and pathology results (if available) of previous malignancies
Out of scope / wrong door
The following conditions are out of scope for this service:
- Chest pain without abnormalities on CT chest
- Occupational lung screening
- Direct screening for TB – should be referred to contact and immigration screening (regional Tuberculosis control centre)
- Pleural plaques
