Essential referral information

Referral will be returned without this. If a mandatory test cannot be obtained, say so in the referral.

- Detailed sleep history - Assessment of relevant contributory factors such as psychosocial and environmental contributors - Presenting complaint and reason for referral - Resources already offered and used by the family such as sleep diary, sleep scheduling and hygiene approaches used. Note: Most typically developing children will resolve with strategies described in the Other Useful Information section

Out of scope / wrong door

The following conditions are out of scope for this service: - Children with enuresis as the presenting problem except when obstructive sleep apnoea is suspected – refer to General Paediatrics [https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/referrals/services/paediatric-medicine-general-paediatrics] - Primary management of mental health disorders – refer to Mental Health or local Paediatrician - Suspected seizure disorders during sleep – refer to Paediatric Neurology [https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/referrals/services/neurology] - Developmental disorders without specific sleep symptoms – refer to developmental or general paediatrics - Brief resolved unexplained events (BRUE) unless a specific sleep disorder is suspected - Infant or toddler settling issues – refer pathways include child health nurse, Ellen Barron Centre or general paediatrics
