Cat 1 · 30 days

appointment within 30 calendar days. - Abnormal liver function tests with ALT >500 or over one month of persistent ALT>300 and/or concerning features: - Evidence of liver decompensation i.e. jaundice and/or ascites and/or encephalopathy - Newly abnormal liver function tests in a pregnant patient

Cat 2 · 90 days

appointment within 90 calendar days. - Persistently abnormal liver function tests  without concerning features identified as Category 1 NB: Category 2 cases can be referred to local/regional general physician if gastroenterology access is not locally available

Cat 3 · 365 days

appointment within 365 calendar days. - No category 3 criteria

Referral will be returned without this. If a mandatory test cannot be obtained, say so in the referral.

Details of presenting issues - Comorbidities and past medical history - Alcohol and medication history (including non-prescription, herbs and supplements) - Risk factors for viral hepatitis - Height, weight and BMI - FIB-4 (Fib-4 calculator), ELFT, FBC results less than 3 months old [https://www.hepatitisc.uw.edu/page/clinical-calculators/fib-4] - HBV, HCV serology results - Recent upper abdominal ultrasound or CT reports
